Acupuncture is an extremely safe modality and has been around for thousands of years, been used on billions of people and is the fastest growing medicine in the world. It is one component of Traditional Oriental Medicine, which also includes, herbs, diet, massage and exercise.

In acupuncture, the insertion of fine needles into different anatomical points on the body causes healing reactions to occur; including stimulating the immune system, relaxing the muscles and releasing endorphins to reduce pain and calm the mind. The needles are prepackaged, sterile, used once and disposed immediately after treatment. Most people find acupuncture to be painless and report a feeling of relaxation and well being.

A new study of acupuncture offers strong scientific support that the age-old therapy used by an estimated three million Americans each year can ease chronic pain. The six-year study financed by the National Institutes of Health included a detailed analysis of data on nearly 18,000 patients. The results found that acupuncture outperformed sham treatments AND standard care for people suffering from osteoarthritis, migraines, and chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain.
